Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Its small, its very very cute and it looks fantastic. No, we’re not describing the latest X-Factor heartthrob or Justin Bieber but our very own Nano Slider USB Flash Drive.

Nano Flash Drive

Available in a wide range of standard colours (it can be produced in any colour you want if you’re ordering more than 100 pcs) and in memory sizes from 512MB all the way up to 16GB. So, it might be small but it certainly packs a punch in terms of visual impact and memory size.

The Nano Slider is a particularly good choice if you’re looking for a small USB flash drive to attach

to a key ring because it can be supplied with a small cord-loop and metal split ring (just like the ones you get to attach to mobile phones). Motorola have already purchased some of the Nano’s and we expect lots of other companies to follow suit.

If you are interested in the Nano don’t forget that we can also pre-load your data (files, presentations, media, sales brochures, technical documents etc.) onto the drive before we deliver them to you. If you’re organised and you have your data ready when you place your order we’ll load the drives with the data during the manufacturing process but if the data is going to be a “last minute thing” don’t worry because we have professional data loading kit in our offices so we can load your data just before despatch.

At the moment we’re offering FREE data loading and FREE gift boxes with all order of the Nano Slider (orders of 100 pcs or more) and if you’ve purchased from us before you’ll get 30-day trade terms on your order as well!

Custom USB Flash Drives – Making Trench Heaters Exciting

Friday, July 16th, 2010

When you’ve got a product called a “Trench Heater” you know you’re facing an uphill struggle at the start to make it look and sound exciting and to get prospective customers interested in it. After all “Trench” is not a phrase that really conjures up the most positive of images particularly as many people immediately associate the word with the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of young men during the First World War.

Installed Trench Heater

But, despite the connotations a Trench Heater is actually a very stylish, very effective form of in-floor heating, cooling and climate control system. These units have integral heat exchangers built into them, they are cost effective to run and because they are discrete and good-looking they are typically found in high-end houses, apartments and offices.

One of the leading designers and manufacturers of Trench Heaters is UK based Jaga. Jaga describe themselves as “working towards a better world. Starting at home. Our culture is one of aesthetics, durability, social responsibility, fair-trading and putting the least possible burden on the environment.”

For Jaga one of their challenges is how to communicate the benefits of their heating systems to their target customers and partners. Traditional brochures worked to a degree but producing significant volumes of glossy and expensive brochures flew in the face of their stated values of “putting the least burden on the environment”. An alternative option, something as innovative as their trench heaters was called for and the solution was a bespoke USB flash drive designed and manufactured in the shape of a trench heater and carrying the Jaga brand on the reverse.

The beauty of these custom USB flash drives is that they look fantastic, they capture people’s imagination and they bring what some might consider to be a boring subject to life. What’s more is that are small, portable and they can of course be pre-loaded with lots of product information, technical specification details, installation information, and media files that show the Trench Heaters in situ in a variety of different environments.

Whilst custom USB flash drives like these are a little more money to produce than standard flash drives and the lead times are a week or so longer its an investment that can reap big dividends. Get it right as Jaga clearly have here and you end up with a Custom USB flash drive that will create a significant amount of interest and “chatter” in your product.

Irrespective of what your product is and how dull it might be considered you can really bring it to life with the imaginative use of bespoke USB Flash drives.

Build Your Own USB Flash Drive – A Great School Project

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Ever thought of designing and building your own customised USB flash drive? Well it’s easier than you think but great fun all the same and it makes for a great project for students.

Rather than just buying standard factory designed USB flash drives and printing your school crest or logo one why not engage the students and get them to design something unique to the school or better still unique to them. Anything is possible and some great results can be achieved relatively easily because if you can get your hands on the core components its really just an assembly job.

The two core components of any USB flash drive are the controller chip and the flash memory module. These are then assembled on a PCB and connected to a USB interface. This single (assembled) PCB can then be embedded into any outer casing to create a unique USB flash drive. Just like any commercially available (and assembled) USB flash drive you can buy the PCB’s in a range of memory capacities starting at 128MB all the way up to 16GB albeit 1GB and 2GB tend to be the most popular.

If you do want to build your own USB flash drives then USB2U can supply you with all the components you need including any accessories your might want for your finished product including key ring attachments, lanyards and gift-boxes. So if you feel your creative juices rising and fancy building your own unique USB memory sticks or setting a challenge for your students then give us a call and we’ll talk you through the options.

Who knows if you can use your imagination to tap into something big and create some demand for your design it’s always possible to move production from your back bedroom or classroom to the factory.

We do have a minimum order of 50 pieces for the PCB USB’s so if you did want to get a project off the ground and you’re not a school or company then get your entrepreneurial hat on and start raising the capital you need. Next step -  Dragons Den and a grilling from the likes of Peter and Theo!

Press Launches – Is It Just Content That Is King

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Lets face it if you’ve got an important Press Event coming up, perhaps to support the launch of a new product, a new service or company expansion then you need it to go well, particularly if it’s a high profile event that could impact your own career depending on how it goes.

As the Press Officer or PR Manager you’ll already be well versed at “keeping lots of plates spinning” and ensuring that your speakers are confirmed, well briefed and “on-message”. But typically you’ll also have responsibility for selecting and securing the venue, setting up the room, getting the right audience confirmed and dealing with the catering and drinks.

The content being delivered might be the responsibility of your colleagues in the Executive Team, Product Teams or Marketing Departments but co-ordinating these individuals and teams can be a challenge. Someone has to take ownership of the overall theme and messages and to make sure Q & A’s are agreed in advance. Often these events can make or break companies or at the very least ensure the success of a new product(s). It’s an overused phrase but “failure is not an option”.

Custom USB Eraser

Simple things like ensuring the invited audience and journalists have copies of the speaker’s notes, slides and biographies are critical. Whether these are handed out in printed form or electronically often depends on what’s being said and to whom but, increasingly USB Memory Sticks are being used to deliver the content in a format that is convenient, lightweight and portable.

Rather than just using a standard USB memory stick an increasing number of companies are using fully customised USB memory sticks as an integral part of their event. Custom USB sticks manufactured in the shape of the product being launched or to represent the company’s brand or logo really do help to ensure that the messages last in a tangible form beyond the event. If you can send your audience away informed, happy, well fed and with easy access to all the key data, messages, product sheets etc. on a handy, lightweight and portable custom USB stick then it should be a job well done.

So whilst content is undoubtedly king and no-one is for a minute suggesting a custom USB memory stick can make up for a poorly thought out or poorly delivered press event or product launch they can add a little bit of a “wow” factor when done well and they provide a talking point beyond the event that is rarely achieved with paper brochures or photocopied versions of PowerPoint slides.

To Brand or Not To Brand – The eternal USB question

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

There are real benefits in printing your company brand or logo on a USB memory stick particularly if the memory stick is given away as part of a wider marketing and advertising campaign.

Similarly if you are loading data and files onto a memory sticks for say a press launch or conference then it makes sense to add your logo (or the events logo) to the front of the memory stick. After all why wouldn’t you put your brand on the stick because the additional cost is minimal and it’s a great way to push your brand into the market.

Branded USB memory sticks are always well received and have a perceived value which is often well in excess of their actual worth. For the recipient there is generally an acknowledgement that they’ve been given something of value, something that suggests you appreciate them and their business. It’s akin to being given a “thank you” for attending, or for participating or just stopping by their stand at an exhibition.

This notion of value and appreciation transfers vicariously with the handing over of the branded USB memory stick and is likely to stay with the recipient far longer than any sales brochure or printed copy of a PowerPoint presentation.

By using a fully customised USB memory stick that is manufactured to represent your brand, your brand values or a particular product you can extend the association with your company further still and increase the perceived value. By injecting a little humour into a custom USB stick it can become a talking point and work well at driving up brand recognition.

But some companies are now abandoning branded memory sticks in favour of plain, discrete, no frills memory sticks. Typically this is where the memory stick is being given out to employees and the company in question is a large bank or firm of lawyers or auditors.

The move away from branded memory sticks by companies of this profile is driven by fear. They fear that employees brandishing a memory stick with their company logo on might be targeted and the stick stolen to recover confidential and/or valuable information. Similar fears exist over the loss of such branded memory sticks by staff, particularly where no password or encryption of the data has been used.

Whilst these fears are understandable and its right to be cautious there is no denying that branded USB memory sticks used for the right activity are here to stay and are a key and growing part of many companies marketing and advertising activities.

Where confidential information is being loaded onto the USB Memory stick it is possible to protect the data using military strength technology. The incremental cost is marginal and its use is likely to grow as more and more memory sticks wash into the market.
