Branded USB Flashdrives Solve Marketing and Promotional Challenges

Friday, July 8th, 2011

Communicating with consumers today is much harder than it used to be, however branded USBs can hold the attention of your target audience for those valuable few minutes.

In the early days of business and trading, marketing was performed in the market place where the businesses and customers were gathered.  Marketing was much less varied than today but it was simpler as businesses knew where their customers were and how to get their attention.

With the introduction of newspapers and the wireless more marketing options were available for companies to reach their target market, but it also started to separate customers.  Businesses would have to decide which newspaper best reached their target market, advertise with them and hope that they reached the right readers.

Today however, this problem is much more problematic.  The invention of the television, computer games, Internet and multiple other entertainment mediums have led to a wide range of marketing streams and in turn have further separated customers into segments of one.  Not only are customers becoming harder to reach but they are interrupted from the media and entertainment they want with TV and radio adverts etc.

The challenge therefore is to become creative and clever in the marketing that is used to gain the attention of the right people.  Some companies spend millions on market research to discover which mediums they should use, but really what they should be doing is going back to basics.

When you give a brand new, shiny USB stick to your potential customers branded with your logo, you instantly catch their attention with something that is both visually appealing and useful to them.  We find that there is something a little more interesting and valuable to a USB flash drive than an old fashioned business card, leaflet or even a CD.  A large majority of times your customer is going to plug the memory stick into a computer to use it for file transfers to find out what has been pre loaded onto the USB stick they have been handed.

In that moment you have the complete and undivided attention of a perfectly targeted customer.  For the price of a USB flash drive, a fraction of the cost of any large marketing campaign, you have a few minutes of valuable engaged advertising.

Another advantage of this type of engaging marketing is that files, documents and information that would not be possible to communicate via other forms of marketing can be placed in front of the people you want to read it.

Our USBs can be preloaded with any type of marketing material that deserves the engaging attention of your potential customers.  The files can be set to auto-run when the USB drive is plugged into a computer so that the information isn’t missed and the drives can even be partitioned so that the information is protected whilst the rest of the drive can be used for data storage.  What’s more, the data loading is free (up to 100MB)!!!

Playboy Collection Released on USB Hard Drive

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Playboy have just released a neat portable USB Drive that comes with an electronic copy of every edition of the Playboy magazine since it was launched in 1953! That’s 56 years of Playboy magazines totalling 650 issues and well over 100,000 pages – enough to keep even the most ardent of fans happy.

Payboy USB Drive

Now whilst the Playboy magazine might not be everyone’s cup of tea it does illustrate yet another way in which USB storage devices are being used to give access to vast amounts of information in a simple, portable and easy to use format. Whilst much of this information is no doubt already available on the web the sheer scale of the information put on these disks makes them a great alternative. Not everyone has access to fast download speeds or has good connectivity so expect more companies to release large collections of this type on portable USB flash drives or disks.

Another collection of popular material that spanned several decades is the Beatles Collection that was released last year by Apple Records on a very attractive “apple shaped” custom USB flash drive. Not only did this flash drive hold 14 albums but it also contained 13 documentary films and rare photographs of the band.

Its not just publishing houses and record labels that are catching onto the benefits of distributing customised USB flash drives pre-loaded with data. USB flash drives and increasingly disks have always been popular giveaways because they are a great way of getting a company brand exposure and garnering loyalty from the user. But, its fair to say that historically companies that distribute Flash Drives have neglected to use the storage space inherent in the drive but as prices fall for larger capacity drives more and more are realising this is a missed opportunity.

If you’re given a USB flash drive at a show, conference, seminar or press event then these days its likely the USB drive is going to be stuffed full of information about the company who paid for them and gave them away. The type of information pre-loaded onto these USB sticks typically includes sales brochures, product sheets, press releases, links to web sites, and occasionally media files such as movies or audio files.

Undoubtedly the content, as compelling as it might be, won’t have quite the same appeal to some as the entire collection of the Playboy magazine.

If you are a company looking to buy or use promotional USB memory sticks then as peculiar as it might seem you should take a lead from Hugh Hefner and the Beatles and pre-load your USB drives with information about your company.

Printed USB Flash Drives – Don’t Forget The Data

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

When you consider just how much information you can store on say a 1GB USB flash drive it’s a shame if your don’t use some of this space to pre-load your sales and contact material onto. The pre-loaded data doesn’t have to be anything specially produced for the flash drives. If you have got sale brochures in an electronic format or say PowerPoint presentation files or even media files these can all be pre-loaded on printed USB flash drives before you distribute them.

Any files that are pre-loaded can either be “protected” so that they cannot be erased or they can simply be loaded just

USB Data Loading

USB Data Loading

like any other data which then allows the user to delete the files. If the files you are pre-loading are large and take up a significant amount of space on the flash drive then its recommended that you allow the user to delete them. If you don’t do this then the relatively small amount of space left of the drives for them to store and carry around their personal data will mean the USB drives won’t get used which sort of defeats the object of giving them out.

Typically data is pre-loaded onto the USB flash drives during their manufacture. Its done this way simply because it’s the most cost effective way to load the data but it does mean you need to be organised and have your data ready early in the process of buying branded USB flash drives.

You can pre-load the data after the flash drives have been manufactured and printed (just before delivery to you) but expect to pay a little more for this service because data loading at this stage is more labour intensive and take longer. Loading data at this late stage may, depending on your supplier, preclude options like “protecting the data” or installing the data as an “auto-run” (this is a solution when the files automatically run when the USB flash drive is connected to a PC). Protecting data and auto-runs are normally only available during the manufacturing process because the process is flash controller dependent.

At USB2U we have invested in state of art professional data loading hardware that allows us to offer data loading solutions in the UK including multi-partitioning of USB drives with CD-ROM and Read-Only Partition Support, auto-runs and protected files.

If you’d like a quote for branded USB flash drives with or without data pre-loading just give us a call or fill in our on-line quote form and we’ll get back to you in a flash!

Printed USB Flash Drives – Don’t Forget The Data

Relieve The Boredom Of Data Loading USB Flash Drive

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Yes, you can relieve the boredom normally associated with pre-loading branded flash drives with data by letting us do it for you. It’s as simple as that. We know just what a pain it can be to get lumbered with the task of loading up your memory sticks, which is why we offer a complete outsourced solution.

Whether you buy your branded memory sticks from us or not we can load up your memory sticks for you. Of course we’d love to be able to supply the memory sticks as well (in which case we can typically offer the data loading free of charge) but if you’ve been tempted to order them from another supplier and now need some help with the data loading then just give us a call and we’ll talk you through the options.

USB Data Loading

USB Data Loading

At USB2U we have invested in some of the latest professional data loading kit available which not only allows us to load your memory sticks but also to re-format and test every memory stick as well if that’s what you need. Our prices are incredibly competitive and start from just a few pence per stick. We’ll include a full QA report with every batch we data load and we’ll turn your job round in just a day or two. If you are up against a really tight deadline then just call us and we’ll see if we can slot you into our schedules.

For the relatively small additional cost to load your sales material (documents, PowerPoint slides, media files, web links etc.) onto a memory stick it’s a “no-brainer” to make sure you do it before you distribute the sticks. Whilst branded memory sticks do a great job of building affinity to your brand and your company it makes good business sense to take advantage of the storage on the sticks and to load up your own data.

If you’re still looking for a supplier of promotional flash drives of custom USB sticks as well as looking for someone that can load your data for you then you’ve definitely come to the right place. At USB2U we’ve been supplying printed flash drives since 2002 and we are now recognised as one of the leading suppliers in the UK. To see just how competitive we are either fill in our on-line enquiry form or phone us on our Freephone number and speak to one of the team.

Relieve The Boredom Of Data Loading USB Flash Drive

Saving a Website URL onto Branded Memory Stick

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

If you’ve ordered some branded USB memory sticks for your sales conference, show or exhibition and really want to squeeze the maximum value from them then you should consider loading data onto the memory stick as well.

Whilst the printed USB memory stick will do a great job at showing off your brand or logo loading data onto the sticks is a easy and cost effective way to give your customer easy access to your sales, pricing and promotional material.

USB Duplicator

After all the most expensive part of any branded memory stick is the flash memory housed within the stick itself so it makes sense to make use of it. Any file that can be digitized can be stored on the memory stick. As a good rule of thumb any data that can be stored on your PC or Mac can be stored on the memory stick but its best to stick to file or data types that most people will have the application to open.

Files that are typically pre-loaded onto a memory stick before distribution include things like PDF versions of sales brochures or price lists, PowerPoint presentations, Movie files, audio files and other Microsoft Office files.

These files can either be “locked” onto the memory stick so they can be viewed or copied but not deleted. Or they can be loaded without any protection so that they user can delete them when they have finished with them and then make full use of the available memory on the stick for their own use. There are two schools of thought on the merits of which approach is best but if you do load lots of data onto the memory sticks and then “lock” this data you make it less likely that the stick will be used and therefore negate the benefit of the user carrying it around with them.

Its always easier (and cheaper) to load the data onto the memory sticks during the manufacturing process but if this is not possible then don’t panic because most supplier of branded memory sticks offer a local, post-production data loading service as well albeit this tends to be a little more expensive.

USB Dataload

One of the simplest and most effective things to data load onto a memory stick is a link to your website. Loading these links onto the memory sticks is very very simple. If you are loading web links yourself just connect the USB stick to your PC and wait for the PC to allocate a Drive Letter to it and generate the “pop-up” window so that you can see what’s on the stick. At this point you just “drag and drop” the bookmark of your website from your browser to the memory stick and that’s it. What you should then see is a link stored on the memory stick that when clicked will open you web page.

Don’t ignore the opportunities to load data onto your memory sticks even if it’s something as simple as your web site URL. After all you’re paying for the memory storage on a promotional memory stick so you ought to make best use of it.
